The Call to Action

In the United states, young adults are experiencing extremely high rates of unemployment and poverty

In 2021, the unemployment rate for recent high school graduates, not enrolled in college ages 16 -24, was 21.6% compared to the national average of 4.6%. That is 1 in every 5 young adults (of those not attending college) that is not working.

Even worse, in 2021, 18 – 24 year olds experienced the highest level of poverty of all adult groupings at 19.02% compared to the national average of 11.6%. In the U.S., one of the most powerful, developed and educated countries in the world, almost 1 of every 5 young adults is actually living in poverty in modern day.

Young adults in this country are struggling economically at staggering rates, particularly the BIPOC population. It’s time to implement new solutions and different interventions to reverse this very concerning trend.
